“I started playing the guitar at age 13, learning from my father, who is also a musician. I began with acoustic Japanese folk music and later taught myself rock, jazz, and flamenco.”
Shunsuke is Japanese, but he lives in Gradisca d’Isonzo and has been playing the guitar for 27 years. An eclectic musician, he loves Thelonious Monk—a jazz musician famous for his improvisational skills—as well as Maurice Ravel, composer of the famous *Boléro*. His favorites also include Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, John Coltrane, Brad Mehldau, Claude Debussy, and Igor Stravinsky.
His career began in Tokyo: “While I was in college, I worked as a jazz musician in Tokyo. I performed as a musical accompanist for the flamenco dance troupe ‘Puerta del Sol.’ On average, I played about twenty concerts. I performed at a concert attended by about a thousand people, alongside Chiemi Hanabaru, Maria Jose Martin, Miguel de Badajoz, and Katsuhiko Katagiri. I taught guitar and music theory at the “Music Tech Studio” music school.”
His motto is: “Don’t play what’s there. Play what’s not there.” By Miles Davis.
